eureka.client.registry-fetch-interval-seconds

Indicates how often eureka client pulls out the service registration information. The default is 30 seconds. For api-gateway, if you want to quickly obtain the service registration status, you can reduce this value, for example, 5 seconds.

eureka.instance.lease-expiration-duration-in-seconds

Leaseexpirationdurationseconds indicates the timeout period for eureka server to wait for the next heartbeat after it received the client’s heartbeat last time. if it does not receive the next heartbeat within this time, the instance will be removed.

  • The default is 90 seconds

  • If the value is too large, it is likely that the instance is no longer alive when the traffic is forwarded.

  • If the value setting is too small, instance is likely to be removed due to temporary network jitter.

  • The value should be at least greater than leaseRenewalIntervalInSeconds

eureka.instance.lease-renewal-interval-in-seconds

LeaseRenewalIntervalInSeconds, which indicates the frequency at which eureka client sends heartbeat to server. If the server side does not receive the client’s heartbeat after leaseexpirationdurationseconds, the instance will be removed. In addition, if the instance implements HealthCheckCallback and decides to make itself unavailable, the instance will not receive traffic.

  • Default 30 seconds

eureka.server.enable-self-preservation

Whether to turn on the self-protection mode is set to true by default.

By default, if Eureka Server does not receive the heartbeat of a microservice instance within a certain period of time, Eureka Server will log off the instance (default 90 seconds). However, when a network partition failure occurs, the micro-service and Eureka Server cannot communicate normally, and the above behavior may become very dangerous-since the micro-service itself is actually healthy, this micro-service should not have been cancelled at this time.

Eureka solves this problem through “self-protection mode”-when Eureka Server node loses too many clients in a short period of time (network partition failure may occur), then this node will enter self-protection mode. Once entering this mode, Eureka Server will protect the information in the service registry and will not delete the data in the service registry (that is, it will not log off any microservices). When the network fails to recover, the Eureka Server node will automatically exit the self-protection mode.

To sum up, the self-protection mode is a security protection measure to deal with network anomalies. Its architectural philosophy is that it would rather keep all micro-services at the same time (both healthy micro-services and unhealthy micro-services will be kept) than blindly cancel any healthy micro-services. Using self-protection mode can make Eureka cluster more robust and stable.

eureka.server.eviction-interval-timer-in-ms

The time interval for eureka server to clean up invalid nodes, the default is 60000 milliseconds, or 60 seconds.
