According to the statistics of “Analysis Report on Market Prospect and Investment Strategic Plan of China’s Oral Health Care Industry from 2018 to 2023”, 56.69% of children aged 3 to 12 have dental caries. In order to solve this problem, ParallelDots Company from the United States has developed an AI model to assist dental caries detection. Its sensitivity to potential dental caries is even higher than that of ordinary dentists.


ParallelDots collected 3,000 dental slices with dental caries labels in dental clinics across the United States as data sets for model training and learning, which is the dental caries diagnosis system.

The system consists of a 100-layer deep fully convoluted neural network (FCNN). Combined with algorithms, the machine can overcome the complexity of tooth anatomy and then mark dental caries on occlusal dental slices.

Compared with 3 certified dentists, the dental caries diagnosis system surpasses the average performance of dentists in sensitivity and accuracy. The predicted dental caries can be displayed in less than 4 seconds with an accuracy of 85%.

At present, ParallelDots has reached cooperation with several dental clinics. The dental caries diagnosis system can be seamlessly connected with all types of X-ray sensors and imaging software.
